House of Cards and American Horror Story star Kate Mara is joining the Johnny Depp sci-fi film Transcendence, which Inception cinematographer Wally Pfister will direct.
Story details are still being kept a secret, but reports suggest the feature is in the vein of 2001: A Space Odyssey and Inception. According to THR, Depp plays a man "who creates a computer program that develops an awareness." Mara's role was undisclosed.

Production is slated to begin shortly, presumably this spring. Inception and Dark Knight helmer Christopher Nolan is exec producing.
