BKV and Marcos Martin Debut the Private Eye

In case you don't hang around IGN Comics much, we're big fans of Brian K. Vaughan. We consider books like Y: the Last Man and Ex Machina to be classics, and we're consistently bowled over by Vaughan and Fiona Staples' current series, Saga. Another Vaughan project we're rather fond of is the mini-series Doctor Strange: The Oath. That book paired Vaughan with artist Marcos Martin for one of the most memorable takes on Doctor Strange ever.

In the years since, Vaughan has hinted at the possibility of reuniting with martin for some sort of creator-owned project. Well, the emergence of some new Spanish language teaser images online suggests that collaboration may be coming soon.

The first teaser appeared on ZonaNegativa:

The second teaser appeared on Entre Comics:

The third teaser appeared on RTVE:

The words on these three images translate to "Like (or "I like it")," "Share," and "Follow," respectively. That suggests some sort of social media aspect to the series. And the character designs indicate that Vaughan will again be dabbling in the science fiction realm. Unfortunately, we don't know much else about the series yet -- publisher, length, release date, etc. But the simple thought of another Vaughan/Martin collaboration is more than enough to get us excited. And we'll be sure to update you on this project when we learn more.

Update: Not only do we have more information, but you're only a couple of clicks away from reading this comic. This mystery series is titled The Private Eye. Vaughan and Martin have created a new digital distribution website called Panel Syndicate to distribute the series via DRM-free PDF, CBR, and CBZ files. The first issue is available for download now with a "pay what you want" price and is available in English, Spanish, or Catalan versions.

Here is the site's description of the series:

Welcome to Panel Syndicate, where artist Marcos Martin and writer Brian K. Vaughan deliver original comics directly to readers around the world, who pay whatever the hell they want for each DRM-free issue. Our first new storyline is THE PRIVATE EYE, a forward-looking mystery we created with colorist Muntsa Vicente. Set in a future where privacy is considered a sacred right and everyone has a secret identity, The Private Eye is a serialized sci-fi detective story for mature readers. You can download our 32-page first issue right now, for any price you think is fair. 100% of your payments go directly into our greedy mitts and will help fund the rest of a story that we're both very proud of (we hope there will be around 10 issues total; an old-school "maxiseries!"), so thanks for reading...

The "pay what you want" business model has worked well for bands like Radiohead, so hopefully it'll be a boon for this project as well. And as quickly as The Private Eye morphed from vague rumor to tangible product, we're crossing our fingers that it won't be long before new installments become available.
