Sylvester McCoy, the actor who played the seventh incarnation of The Doctor from 1987-89, has denied being approached to appear in the 50th anniversary special of Doctor Who which is due to broadcast this November.
Speaking with IGN whilst promoting The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey DVD and Blu-ray release, we asked the actor whether he'd heard anything from Doctor Who show runner Steven Moffat about appearing in the special, and he told us: "No. Nothing. Niet. Zilch. The other day I was with Tom Baker, Peter, and Colin – the 20th century Who-ers, and Tom asked 'Well, little man, have you heard anything?' and I told him 'No, I haven’t heard anything.' So none of us have heard anything." You can watch our full interview with McCoy below.
Doctor Who has traditionally celebrated its big anniversaries with multi-Doctor stories, dating back to 1973's Jon Pertwee adventure The Three Doctors, but if Sylvester McCoy and Tom Baker have yet to be contacted by Moffat, the chances of old Who mixing with new Who for the 3D special due on November 23rd seems unlikely. Doctor Who returns to BBC One and BBC America for a run of eight episodes on March 30th with series premiere The Bells Of St. John.
The BBC has also just announced a three-day event celebrating the 50th Anniversary will be taking place at the ExCel in London over the weekend of November 22-24 with tickets going on sale soon, for more info click here.
