Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Producer Doesn't Think Kickstarter Can Help Revive Series

There's been a lot of talk about Kickstarter's potential to help revive beloved television shows as one-off films following the meteoric and record breaking success of the Veronica Mars movie campaign.

There was, of course, some controversy surrounding the use of the outlet to help back a studio owned property. More than that, though, fans have been speculating about how Kickstarter may be able to help shows that were cancelled before their time - and have since gained a cult following as Veronica Mars did - to come back to life. Joss Whedon weighed in on Firefly as did Zack Levi on Chuck.

Five TV Shows We'd Like to See Get Kickstarted

Josh Friedman, the producer of the truncated Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles (the show ended on a frustratingly enticing cliffhanger) also took to twitter to answer some fan inquiries about a possible return of the series - either as a standalone film, or in the form of an additional season.

Why We Loved Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles

T:TSCC is made more expensive, and complex, due to the rights issues surrounding the franchise. In a series of tweets, Friedman essentially said that the current rights holders have no interest in T:TSCC, so it wouldn't matter if it was Kickstarted or not.

Take a look at some of Friedman's tweets on the subject below.

All u asking about a TSCC kickstarter...rights situation, budget necessities, motivation of corporate entities make it HIGHLY unlikely.

Trust me guys, @annapurnapics knows who I am. They just don't care. Their goal in life is not to make a TSCC movie.

I could hand @annapurnapics $15mil and it'd be about $150mil short of what they want to do. They want to make Terminator movies, not TSCC.

I know it's harsh but I can't imagine a scenario where there will ever be more TSCC in any form. We have what we have. #31

We are devoted fans of the series here at IGN TV, but knew that a T:TSCC return was highly unlikely due to the aforementioned rights issues. Additionally, leading lady  Lena Headey is busy attempting to reign in her maniac son and dominate Westeros as Cersei Lannister on HBO's Game of Thrones. Kickstater can be, and often is, a great tool. It's not a miracle worker, though. Sadly.
