The Ultimates Get a New Creative Team

Marvel's Ultimate Comics: The Ultimates is set to get an all-new creative team as of issue #25 in the form of Joshua Hale Fialkov (I, Vampire, Green Lantern Corps) and Carmine Di Giandomenico (Punisher: War Zone, Magneto: Testament).

The team's first issue will kick off a new story titled Ultimates: Disassembled, a play on the classic Avengers storyline from a few years back. In an interview with Newsarama, Fialkov said of the story, "By the end of this arc, we will have an entirely new set of Ultimates. They will be five of my favorite characters in the Ultimate Universe. The first thing I did when I came in was like, 'Look, here's the thing, we've seen these characters for the past 10 years now. Let's explore what it means to live in a world without them.'"

He continued, "The difference between the Ultimate Universe and the Marvel Universe is that we can do horrible, horrible things to these characters that in the Marvel Universe would be an approval process. I think in the Ultimate Universe, because the characters are these other versions, we get a little bit more latitude. They killed Wolverine, for god's sake. There's a level of freedom to it. I think part of the way the Ultimate books have survived as long as they have and done so well is that."

The current writer of Ultimates, Sam Humphries, added, "It's not easy for me to leave the Ultimates. I love this book and I love these characters — they have been a special home to me since the dawn of my days at Marvel. But was offered another project I couldn't pass up, and something on my schedule had to give."

We're certainly still bummed that I, Vampire is coming to an end, but with Fialkov taking on Green Lantern Corps, Red Lanterns, and now The Ultimates, we're confident the best is still yet to come.
