LucasArts Lays Off Staff, Moving to ‘Licensing Model’

LucasArts has confirmed layoffs as it shifts to licensed games instead of internal development. A company spokesperson provided the following statement to IGN:

“After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games. As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles.”

Last month, rumors suggested that Star Wars 1313 was “on hold” as LucasArts focused on the new trilogy instead. We’ve reached out to LucasArts about the status of that project and will update this story with any comment we receive.

IGN wishes the best of luck to anyone affected by today’s news.
