Zoe Saldana Up for Guardians of the Galaxy

Is it Guardians of the Galaxy day? First we heard rumors that Thanos might be getting a henchman in the upcoming Marvel film, and now word has come that Zoe Saldana is up for the female lead role of Gamora.

Heat Vision reports that the Star Trek and Avatar star is in negotiations to play Gamora, the green-skinned alien assassin who also happens to be the adopted daughter of the villainous Thanos (who eventually turns against him). At least, that's how it went down in the comics. It remains to be seen how the Guardians story will play out on the big screen.

I think she's great for the role -- physically she's just right (aside from the whole green thing), she can play the lighter side of the script that James Gunn is surely bringing, plus she's well-accustomed to the visual effects work she'll have to deal with.

First Look at Marvel's Phase Two Movies and New Characters

If cast, Saldana joins Chris Pratt as Star-Lord and Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer. This will probably round out the human side of the team, with Groot and Rocket Raccoon most likely being CGI characters. Shooting is expected to start in June.
