It's been almost 10 years since the last entry in the original Shin Megami Tensei series - but now that long wait is almost over. Today developer Atlus confirmed the existence of Shin Megami Tensei IV for the Nintendo 3DS. The company says the game will feature 3D dungeons and StreetPass functionality, and also promises it will include "powerful new demons, expansive dungeons, epic story arcs with branching plot lines, game-altering decision making, and more."
The story of SMT IV centers around the Samurai, the sacred protectors of the Eastern Kingdom of Mikado. As a brand new Samurai, you'll be battling against evil factions trying to take over the world, as well vengeful gods and a growing army of demons.
In true MegaTen fashion, the choices you make throughout your adventure will have far-reaching consequences, ultimately affecting how your quest to save the world unfolds. The game boasts more than 400 demons to recruit, collect and fuse, and the Press Turn system will reward strategic thinking with an extra turn, while punishing carelessness with the loss of a turn.
Shin Megami Tensei IV will arrive this summer, exclusively for the 3DS. Until then, enjoy a few more screenshots...
